Did I follow my rules?

A few weeks ago, in my post on "You know you are old when...", I listed some rules I hoped to follow on our cruise last month. Here's the list:

We are taking a cruise with the family over spring break. I have some goals:

  • Make it to a show after 8pm without falling asleep.

  • Don't day drink so much that my bedtime is before dinner.

  • Just say no to more than one fruity frozen drink, as they hit you hard when you have very little tolerance anymore.

  • Don't dance with heels on. Please, just don't.

  • Remember to use lots of sunscreen and reapply frequently.

  • Wear the comfy shoes, not the cute shoes.

  • Embarrass my kids frequently by making them take lots of pictures.

  • Turn off my work email and respect my own out of office message.

Well, what rules did I follow and which did I break? First, I never made it to a show after 8pm. This was actually totally fine as I went to the casino instead. I got to hang with my dad and play blackjack most nights, so this was pretty awesome. We did really well a few of the nights, others, not so much.

Did I day drink so much I went to bed before dinner? Well, yes for one day, sort of. It couldn't be helped honestly. First we had a cabana with a lovely bottle of Moet Chandon champagne. Then, we went to a wine tasting. And, I can't forget the yummy rum punches and maybe a margarita or two. I had to take a nap before dinner, but then bounced back.

I really had trouble saying no to drinks. It was vacation and I did not have to drive, so yeah.

Luckily I did not go dancing and did not have to suffer with heels on.

Oh sunscreen - well, I did put it on, but not enough. The overcast day in St. Martin did me in. Learn from me, apply more when overcast not less.

I wore mostly comfy shoes. Only one night at dinner I chose poorly. I feel this was successful. Except for our waterfall trip. Next time, well actually I will never do that excursion again, one and done. But the water shoes from Amazon pretty much sucked. They did the job, but were not intended for hiking up a mountain prior to entering the water.

I absolutely took so many pictures that I embarrassed my kids. Goal achieved.

I turned off my email for the most part. It was difficult not looking at it every day, but my mental heal is worth it.
