Mommin’

There's a meme out there that says nothing prepares you for when you move from "mom" to "bruh". It's totally true. I love being a mom, but it's a tricky line to walk sometimes.

Are you the fun parent? The disciplinarian? The organizer, calendar keeper, driver to way to many activities, check writer (yes travel sports, I'm looking at you), the no nonsense get things done parent, or the let's hang and do fun things parent?

My default is the practical, no nonsense, schedule keeper, let's just survive parent. This weekend, my husband and daughter are away at a tournament so it's just me and my son. He immediately asked me what fun things we are doing this weekend together.

My first thought was, well we have a basketball game, need to do laundry, help out with my grandmother, food shopping, take care of the dogs, catch up on work, and the list goes on. When I asked my son what he wanted to do, he immediately said, "go to the arcade and out to breakfast so I can get a milkshake". Hmmm... we are definitely not on the same page.

The arcade is off the list, we are doing something similar on Monday for his birthday. Breakfast out so he can get a milkshake. Uh, yeah, no. So I suggested we do brunch at 11:30, so I don't feel totally bad about him having a milkshake first thing in the morning.

My husband and daughter should be back later this afternoon, so maybe we can do some together tonight like order in and watch a movie. I'm cool with that. But I still feel bad that I'm too practical to be the fun mom. I'm definitely not his bruh.😎

Pic of me being the "fun" mom in Disney last year when we were there for a field hockey tournament.
