Nashville for the over 40+crowd

This past weekend my husband and I got away for a few days and flew to Nashville. We have a goal to do more trips together, no kids, even if they are just long weekends.

But traveling now in my 40s is definitely different. Maybe I'm just crabbier, or short on patience. But when we fly somewhere, I feel like it takes an entire day. It obviously didn't, since we flew out around 7:30pm Philly time to get to Nashville after 9pm. The whole lets get to the airport early and hang around for two hours just isn't my thing anymore. Meanwhile, I am the person who says we need to get there super early so we don't have to rush.

We do have TSA precheck (highly recommend and super easy to do), so the wait at security was non-existent. Then our flight was delayed an hour and a half. So what to do for almost two hours? Go to Chickie and Pete's of course. The restaurant options in Philly are very limited. So I enjoyed cheesesteak nachos and some dogfish 60 minute IPAs.

By the time we boarded, it felt like we were there forever. The flight was delayed further after we boarded. The conveyor belt loading the bags broke. They had to then load everything by hand. Once we got in the sky, the flight was fine. Landing was good, and we got our bags from the baggage claim and caught an uber to the hotel.

At this point, I am pooped, grouchy and a little hangry. We went to the hotel bar for some charcuterie and drinks. The atmosphere and cool bar space made up for the mediocre charcuterie. But I didn't care at that point.

The next day we explored, met up with good friends and day drank - a lot. We made it to our dinner reservation, but weren't super hungry and was at that "I'm tipsy, feeling good, but will come down soon" point. After some fun bubbly and more wine, we crashed at the hotel. Everyone talks about the fun bars and music in Nashville, and we definitely checked it out earlier. But I was done. Day drinking and being 45, don't really mix anymore. I was literally asleep by 9pm. So cool, I know.

Sunday we ate our way through the city. A flight of bacon, biscuits and sausage gravy, bbq and dinner at Adele's was a lot. But it was so good, and definitely not on my diet. I did imbibe a little at dinner, but like I said, I'm old and can't hang anymore.

We flew back Monday, and got home in time to meet the kids as they got off the bus. The days of day drinking, eating way too much and then going out at night are so over for me. You'll find me this weekend away in the Poconos with some friends. We will be drinking wine in our PJs or in the hottub chilling. No more of that late night bar hopping for me... for awhile at least.

Some pics of the food - seriously a great foodie town. We had pulled pork and ribs from Shot Gun willies, Scallops, moroccan eggplant and shrimp/octopus bruschetta at Etch. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant Gathr, hamachi with jalapenos, eggplant caponata with burrata and black cod at Adele's. So good!
